Solo Specialist Practice

You'll see Dr. Kung at every visit.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Jason Kung, DDS, MS · Specialist Endodontist · UCLA DDS · OHSU MS

Silicon Valley Endodontics is a solo specialist practice on purpose. The doctor who reviews your CBCT and sits with you at the consult is the doctor who does the procedure — and the doctor who sees you again if a retreatment, follow-up imaging, or microsurgical revision becomes necessary years later. For retreatments, apicoectomies, second opinions, and any case where the diagnosis isn't obvious, continuity changes the outcome.

When continuity matters most

Why does seeing the same endodontist at every visit matter?

For straightforward single-visit root canals, it matters less. For retreatments, microsurgical apicoectomy, multi-visit cases, second opinions, and any case where the diagnosis is uncertain at the consult, continuity matters a lot. The doctor who reviewed your CBCT, palpated your tooth, and listened to your symptom history has context that doesn't fully transfer in a chart note.

Are group practices bad?

No — a well-run group practice can be excellent, and group practices often have advantages we don't (deeper bench for scheduling, more doctor-hours per week). The trade-off is that the doctor you meet at consult may not be the doctor who treats you, especially for procedures scheduled weeks out. For some patients that's fine. For others, particularly anxious patients and complex-case patients, having one specialist throughout is the deciding factor.

What about when Dr. Kung is on vacation?

Our office only schedules procedures on days Dr. Kung is in the office. Urgent walk-in patients during vacation periods are referred out with a written summary; routine cases are scheduled for Dr. Kung's return. We never substitute a different specialist mid-case.

How does this affect my referring dentist's workflow?

It's simpler. Your general dentist gets reports from one named specialist with one phone number — every retreatment, every second opinion, every follow-up. Coordination is direct rather than triaged through a group scheduler.
