I would highly recommend this Dr. King's office in Sunnyvale. I had a last minute emergency and his office took me in immediately, even as a new patient. Him and his staff even stayed a bit later to make sure I got the full treatment I needed. The office has very advanced machines that I haven't seen before. Very patient and took the time go thoroughly threw the x-rays and explained to me slowly and patiently what he saw and thought was going on. Dr. Jason Kung quickly assessed my gum infection and calmed my nerves and even gave me a heads up on a potential root canal in the future but said I didn't need it now and to be mindful of certain things in the future. I appreciated his transparency, patience and outstanding hospitality.

The office staff was great they made me feel welcomed and at eased. They answered all my questions (this was my first root canal so I had a lot). The procedure was so smoooth I was in an out with in an hour an half. They did such a great job I would highly recommend coming here if you need a root canal (no pain during or after the procedure).
Dr. Jason Kung has been a huge blessing to my quality of life, and there's no endodontist my family and I trust more. He truly listens to what outcome you want as the patient, then expertly and compassionately delivers it against all odds. His highly skilled work left me and my routine dentist in awe. As a bonus, he speaks fluent English and Mandarin. Details below: 3 other dentists had told me that replacing my teeth with implants was the only way to treat my advanced periodontal disease symptoms (pus and bleeding gums). Unlike most dentists who tried to push me to their desired outcome (very costly implants), what set Dr. Kung apart was how he truly listened to my desired outcome of saving my teeth, made that his goal, and then succeeded in doing that for a very reasonable price. Compared to other dentists, he came up with the simplest and most direct treatment plan (of microsurgery and root canal procedures), and achieved the best results.
Highly Recommend Dr.Kung-I recently needed an apicoectomy (root end surgery) after a previous root canal didn't fully resolve the issue.. From the moment I walked into their modern office, I felt completely at ease. Dr. Kung and the entire team are true experts in microscopic endodontics and advanced dental microsurgery. The procedure was virtually pain-free thanks to their state-of-the-art technology and gentle approach. They explained everything clearly, used high-powered microscopes for precision, and I experienced minimal discomfort with fast healing afterward. If you're searching for a root canal specialist, this practice delivers exceptional care with compassion and precision. The staff is friendly, the facility is spotless, and they truly prioritize patient comfort and long-term success.I've already referred several colleagues and family members. Silicon Valley Endodontics and Microsurgery is the gold standard for endodontics in the Silicon Valley area.
I had a complex apicoectomy (endodontic root-end microsurgery) performed at Silicon Valley Endodontics and Microsurgery located at Sunnyvale. Dr. Jason Kung is an outstanding specialist. He used advanced dental microscopes for precise, minimally invasive surgery after my previous root canal failed. The procedure was smooth and nearly painless, with excellent follow-up care from the friendly team. My recovery was fast and my tooth was successfully saved. If you're looking for a top-rated endodontist near me in Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose, Mountain View, or anywhere in Silicon Valley / South Bay, I highly recommend Dr. Kung. Perfect for apicoectomy, microsurgery, and complex root canals.Extremely grateful for their expertise in the Bay Area!
Dr Kung and team did a great job to take away my tooth pain after a painless root canal procedure which took about 30 minutes. The office is equipped with the latest high tech modern necessary equipment. If you have any anxiety don't worry because Dr Kung will take good care of you.
My experience was extremely good. Dr. Kung is careful, considerate, and extraordinarily competent. I recommend him without reservations.
Dr. Kung provided me with options without any pressure. He made the procedure and aftercare as painless as possible. I received excellent care and fully recommend him. His staff was also extremely friendly.
Dr. Kung performed an emergency root canal for me and helped accommodate my accelerated schedule. He did a great job explaining the process and making me feel comfortable and I'm so thankful that I was able to find a doctor with so much compassion.
One of my husband's tooth had a failed root canal treatment and 2 failed root canal surgery after. They were done by his previous endodontist. But he keeps having pain. So our dentist referred him to Dr. Kung. He was able to save that tooth by performed a root surgery . We are very satisfied with the results. We highly recommend Dr. Kung to you if you are looking for an endodontist .
I was referred to Dr. Kung at Silicon Valley Endodontics and Microsurgery in Sunnyvale for a complex root canal problem and possible endodontic microsurgery. I was nervous, but Dr. Kung explained the diagnosis and treatment options clearly. The office felt very specialized, with advanced 3D imaging, microscope-based treatment, and a very precise approach. I appreciated the calm environment, attention to detail, and focus on saving the tooth. I would highly recommend this office for anyone needing expert root canal treatment, retreatment, or endodontic microsurgery in the South Bay.
I needed an emergency root canal in Sunnyvale and contacted Silicon Valley Endodontics & Microsurgery. They were able to see me same-day/next-day when I was in significant pain. Dr. Jason Kung was calm and thorough, explained what was happening clearly, and made the process feel straightforward. They used CBCT to confirm the diagnosis, which gave me confidence in the plan. Billing/fees were explained clearly before treatment. I had severe tooth pain and couldn't sleep — I could sleep that night. I felt comfortable the entire time — professional, efficient, and compassionate team. If you're in the South Bay and need a root canal specialist/endodontist, I highly recommend them
Response from Dr. Jason Kung
Thank you, Dan — really appreciate you taking the time to write this out in detail. Same-day and next-day emergency root canal slots in Sunnyvale are exactly what we hold our schedule open for, because severe tooth pain that keeps you awake shouldn't wait two or three weeks for a specialist appointment. That gap — between acute pain and when a typical endodontist can see you — is one of the reasons we structure the practice the way we do. On the CBCT: for emergencies especially, I'd rather spend an extra ten minutes confirming the diagnosis in 3D than commit you to a treatment plan built on a 2D X-ray. Missed canals, vertical root fractures, and previously-treated teeth that need retreatment versus apicoectomy all look very different on a CBCT scan than on a standard periapical — and that's often the difference between a root canal that lasts and one that doesn't. Thank you also for noting the billing conversation. Transparent fees up front matter, especially when someone is deciding between saving a tooth and an extraction under the stress of acute pain. We try to have that conversation before anesthetic is on the tray, not after. Wishing you a smooth, fully-healed tooth, and please don't hesitate to reach out if anything comes up.
Dr. Kung did an excellent job on my teeth! I had issues with two of my teeth and he fit me in on the weekend. All work was well explained and any questions were answered patiently. The work performed was efficient and painless. I highly recommend Dr. Kung if you are looking for an endodontist for any work on your teeth!
Great experience at Silicon Endodontics. The staff was friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable throughout the visit. The doctor explained everything clearly and the procedure was quick and smooth. I really appreciated the care and attention to detail—highly recommend!
I had an incredibly good experience at Silicon Valley Endodontists. From the moment I called to the moment I left. People were polite, concerned and considerate. And they were able to provide excellent service on a Sunday afternoon. I was in dire need of pain relief and the Dr did an analysis and performed a root canal. While not the favorite thing I've ever been through, it was relatively easy and without pain. From start to finish I was in and out in 2 hours. And on a Sunday! Thank you Team SVE
Dr. Jason Kung and his team: Tran, Samantha, Ramona and Wai did an AWESOME JOB! Their patience, kindness& supportive professionalism was the best. I'm a huge fan and DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this place for Root Canals, Enndodontics and Microsurgery. They are receptive to anxious patients, like myself. Their follow up the next day check in was thoughtful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Thank all of you!
Dr. Jason Kung is honestly the best endodontist I've ever been to. I just had a root canal done by him, and the whole experience was shockingly easy. He explained everything he was doing the entire time, checked in constantly, and made sure I was totally comfortable. I didn't feel any pain at all, which blew my mind because I was expecting the worst. Even though I was referred by my dentist, people should know you don't need a referral to see him. He specializes only in root canals -- not general dentistry -- so if you've got an abscess, intense tooth pain, or just know you need a root canal, you can go straight to him and save yourself a lot of stress and time. Dr. Kung is super attentive, patient, and genuinely cares about making sure you're okay throughout the procedure. If you want someone who knows exactly what they're doing and actually makes the whole thing feel easy, he's the one.
What an amazing establishment. I had the pleasure of being referred to Dr. Kung's office by my dentist. Dr. Kung and Jocelyn were phenomenal and so patient oriented. To start, they made a stressful situation fun by allowing me to pick my genre of music for my procedure. Second, Dr.Kung was very friendly, caring, and most important, knowledgeable. He explained each step of my procedure in detail and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. From an administrative standpoint, Dr. Kung and Jocelyn were transparent on pricing, outcome prospects, and how I would feel after the procedure. If you need to see an endodontist, proactively ask your dentist to send you to Silicon Valley Endodontics.
The office was able to get me in asap for a consultation regarding a tooth that needed a specialist review. Dr Kung took the time to explain everything to me and what best options would be. Strongly recommend this office and doctor for anyone looking for a specialist. A++++

Our Technology
We invest in the best available instruments because precision equipment directly translates into better outcomes for patients.

Surgical Microscope
Carl Zeiss OPMI
The Carl Zeiss OPMI is the gold standard in endodontic operating microscopes. Its coaxial illumination and variable magnification allow Dr. Kung to see details invisible to the naked eye: extra canals, hairline cracks, and subtle anatomical variations that determine treatment success. The attached camera also lets patients see exactly what Dr. Kung sees during their visit.

3D Cone Beam CT Imaging
J. Morita Veraview X800
The J. Morita Veraview X800 is widely regarded as the leading dental CBCT for endodontics. Dr. Kung scans in the unit's high-resolution Endo Mode — an 80 µm voxel size at a 40 × 40 mm limited field of view focused on a single tooth or sextant — which is the small-volume, high-resolution protocol the AAE/AAOMR Joint Position Statement on CBCT in Endodontics (2015) and the European Society of Endodontology Position Statement (Patel et al., IEJ 2019) both recommend for endodontic diagnosis. The result: a true 3D map of the tooth, roots, surrounding bone, and adjacent anatomy at a fraction of the radiation of a medical CT — and a confident diagnosis before a single instrument touches the tooth.
Our Practice

Our Philosophy
At Silicon Valley Endodontics and Microsurgery, we believe that saving your natural teeth should always be the priority. Nothing looks, feels, or functions quite like your own tooth.
We understand that the phrase "root canal" can cause anxiety. Our entire practice is built around changing that experience. From the moment you walk in to the completion of your treatment, your comfort is our primary concern.
By combining advanced local anesthesia techniques with the Zeiss OPMI Pico surgical microscope and J. Morita 3D CBCT imaging, we provide treatments that are precise, thorough, and as comfortable as possible.

Patient questions for Dr. Kung
The questions we hear most often during initial consultations.
What is Dr. Jason Kung's education and training?+
Dr. Jason Kung earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He then completed a Master of Science (MS) and Certificate in Endodontics at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He also completed hospital-based dental and trauma training at St. Barnabas Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center in the Bronx, New York.
Is Dr. Kung a specialist endodontist?+
Yes. Dr. Kung is a specialist endodontist — a dentist who completed two additional years of advanced residency training exclusively focused on root canal treatment, endodontic microsurgery, and dental pulp diagnosis. He is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE).
How competitive is endodontic residency?+
Highly competitive. Per the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute Survey of Advanced Dental Education 2024-25 (CODA data), US endodontic programs received an average of 164 applications per program in 2024-25 (up from 60 in 2014-15 — nearly a 3× increase) while admitting only 233 first-year residents nationwide that year. There were 490 endodontic residents enrolled across all program years and 222 graduated in 2024-25. (The ADA notes the per-program applications ratio counts an applicant once at each program he or she applies to, so the headline ratio overstates unique applicants.) A peer-reviewed survey of program directors in the Journal of Endodontics (Bell et al., 2014) described how programs evaluate candidates — weighing dental-school class rank, National Board scores, prior clinical and research experience, and letters of recommendation. Dr. Kung was selected for the endodontic residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), one of the long-established programs in the western United States.
What languages does Dr. Kung speak?+
Dr. Kung practices in English and Mandarin Chinese. The practice website is also available in Spanish, Farsi, Hindi, Korean, Vietnamese, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
Are you open on weekends?+
Yes. Silicon Valley Endodontics is open Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 3 PM. We're one of the only specialist endodontic offices in the South Bay with full weekend hours, including for emergency root canals, dental abscesses, and post-treatment complications.
Are you in-network with my insurance?+
We are an out-of-network PPO provider. We accept all PPO plans and our office files claims on your behalf — most patients with PPO insurance receive 50–80% coverage for endodontic procedures. We provide a written treatment estimate before any work begins so there are no billing surprises. We do not accept HMO, DHMO, or Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal plans. While we can't bill these plans, we can usually offer a courtesy discount for patients paying out of pocket.
Will you give an honest second opinion?+
Yes — and we're routinely asked for them. About one in five patients we see is coming for a second opinion before agreeing to a root canal, retreatment, or extraction. We'll review your records and imaging, do our own diagnostic exam, and tell you honestly whether we agree with the original recommendation. If we don't think you need the procedure, we'll say so.
Do you treat children?+
Dr. Kung treats endodontic problems in patients of all ages, including children with both baby (primary) and permanent teeth. Common pediatric referrals include traumatic dental injuries (knocked-out, displaced, or fractured teeth) and pulp therapy for teeth with deep cavities or abscesses. Parents are welcome in the treatment room.
Do you offer Mandarin-speaking appointments for older family members?+
Yes. Dr. Kung practices fluently in both English and Mandarin Chinese, which often matters for older relatives or family members who prefer to discuss medical decisions in their native language. The practice website is also available in 8 languages including Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Has Dr. Kung published any research?+
Yes. Dr. Kung is a first author on peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of Endodontics (2015) and The Open Dentistry Journal (2010), and a co-author in Bioinformation (2012). His publications are indexed in PubMed (PMIDs: 26293174, 23055612, 21088686).
