Most endodontic offices on the mid-Peninsula close Friday evening and don't reopen until Monday. We don't. Dr. Jason Kung — UCLA-trained specialist endodontist — sees Redwood City patients both Saturday and Sunday, about 25 minutes south via US-101 or I-280, for severe tooth pain, swelling, dental trauma, and post-treatment complications.
8 AM – 3 PM, every weekend. Specialist endodontist on site — same fees as a weekday visit.
US-101 S to Mathilda Avenue, or I-280 S to Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd. Free on-site parking at 1565 Hollenbeck Ave.
Practice limited entirely to endodontics. Microscope and CBCT on every case — including weekends.
Weekend endodontic availability is genuinely limited on the mid-Peninsula — most offices around Redwood City, San Carlos, and Belmont are Monday–Friday only. Silicon Valley Endodontics in Sunnyvale (about 25 minutes south via US-101 or I-280) is open every Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM – 3 PM, with a specialist endodontist on site. Call (669) 234-2354 first to confirm same-day availability.
Saturday morning traffic is significantly lighter than weekday peak. Door-to-door from downtown Redwood City, Sequoia Hospital area, or Woodside Road runs about 22–28 minutes via US-101 S to Mathilda Avenue, or about 25 minutes via I-280 S to Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. I-280 is more scenic and predictable; US-101 is usually faster off-peak.
Yes — weekend emergency root canal treatment is billed on the same terms as a weekday visit. Most major PPO plans (Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, Anthem Blue Cross) cover 50–80% as a standard benefit. There is no separate weekend surcharge at our office. Bring your insurance card and we will verify benefits before treatment.
No prior authorization or referral is required for emergency endodontic care under California PPO rules. We see Redwood City patients directly Saturday and Sunday, treat the source of the pain, and send a complete diagnostic + treatment summary (including CBCT findings) to your general dentist on Monday morning so they can place the final crown.
The ER is the right call if there is spreading facial swelling toward the eye or down the neck, a fever above 101°F, trouble swallowing, or trouble breathing — those are signs the infection has moved beyond the tooth. For severe tooth pain alone, an ER will only give you antibiotics and pain medication, then refer you back to an endodontist — typically costing $1,500–$2,000 with no actual treatment. A weekend root canal at our office addresses the cause in one visit.
If it is safe for you, an over-the-counter NSAID such as ibuprofen or naproxen may temporarily help; follow the package directions and do not combine NSAIDs. Acetaminophen may be an option when NSAIDs are not appropriate. Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows — lying flat raises pulp-chamber pressure and worsens throbbing. Cold compress, not heat. Don't chew on that side. Call us first thing Saturday at 8 AM — same-day slots fill quickly.
